It’s time to bring out your best for the cosplay america craftsmanship and Masquerade Contests!

Craftsmanship contest

Craftsmanship is judged based on the craft of your costume! Since time is limited for the Craftsmanship Contest, there will only be 36 slots.  Sign up early! First come, first served!

  • 26 Craftsmanship slots will be filled Online
  • 10 Craftsmanship slots will be given out at the Convention
  • Groups or Individuals are encouraged
  • On site sign-up will be on Friday from 4PM - 7PM (Location To Be Announced)
  • Judging will occur Saturday from 9AM - Noon and 1PM - 4PM
  • Each entry will have a maximum of ten minutes for judging.  During this time, the participant will have 5 minutes to show off and explain the cosplay.

Masquerade contest

Masquerade is judged based on your performance/skit! The Masquerade Contest will only be allowing 15 slots since time is limited. Don't miss your chance to show us your best performance!

  • Only 15 slots will be open for Performances/Skits
  • You must Pre-Register Online in order to participate
  • Judging will occur on Saturday night on the main stage
  • Individual performances may not exceed 1 minute and 30 seconds
  • Group performances may not exceed 3 minutes

Saturday night Main event

  • Skits and Performances will take place first on the main stage
  • Craftsmanship walk will take place after the Performances on the main stage
  • Awards are announced following the Performances and Craftsmanship showing

Friday Bonus non-competitive event: Cosplay Catwalk

All skill levels welcome! 

Don’t want to compete on Saturday?  Have more than one cosplay creation?  The Catwalk gives you the opportunity to display your work! 

No performances are allowed during the Catwalk.

contest Rules and guidelines

All participants must be registered Cosplay America Convention attendees.  You may be asked to present your badge.  Be sure to bring it with you!

You must have made the costume or the person who made it must be present with you at the time of craftsmanship judging. No eBay or otherwise purchased costumes permitted for craftsmanship.

You may not compete with a costume that has previous won major awards unless significant changes to update and improve the costume have been performed and documented.

No nudity.  No costume is no costume.  Body paint does not count as clothing.

No profanity allowed on stage.  This includes messages on signs, on clothes, or in accompanying music.  This includes profanity in any language.  Anyone who violates this may be disqualified from the competition.

No political or religious statements during the competition.  Anyone who violates this may be disqualified from the competition.

All prop weapons must conform to the Cosplay America Weapons Policy.

Do not enter or exit the stage except at the designated points.

Large and/or elaborate costumes must be handled by the contestant and/or assistants the contestant brings. Cosplay America will not provide assistants.

MASQUERADE PERFORMANCE

Individual performances may not exceed 1 minute and 30 seconds. Group performances may not exceed 3 minutes.

No flashpots, explosive devices, or similar special effects may be used. Anyone who violates this rule may be disqualified from the competition and may be asked to leave the convention area.

Music must be provided digitally by 7pm on Friday night.

 

CRAFTSMANSHIP RULES

No projectiles! Nothing must leave your person during judging or while you are on stage. Anyone who violates this rule may be disqualified from the competition and may be asked to leave the convention area.

To be judged for accuracy, a visual reference - preferably a front and back color photo on paper - can be turned in with your application. This is not required. However, you may not be eligible for accuracy points if the judges are not familiar enough with your character.

Q:  What awards are there?

A:  We have awards for First and Runner Up in each category, Best in Show, Masquerade and awards for our Youth Participants. Please note that awards may be adjusted depending on turnout.

 

Q:  What can I wiN

A:  We will have prizes ranging from cash to certificates, badges and more. 

 

Q:  Which Category should I compete in?

A:  We have two categories for craftsmanship. Beginner and Advanced. If you have won three or less awards in a cosplay competition then you’re in the beginner category. If you’ve four or more awards you are in the advanced category. 

 

Q:  How does judging work? Do I need anything?

A:  You will be checked in and brought into a quiet area with three judges. Over the course of five minutes you’ll be able to explain the process of creating your costume. Don’t be nervous, our judges are excited to hear about how you created your work. We’re all cosplayers as well and love seeing the creativity and effort you’ve put into your work. Please bring a color reference if possible and you’re welcome to bring further materials that show off your work.

A:   Creativity, accuracy and cleanliness.

 Q:  What if I'm running late for my judging appointment?

A:   We will try to accommodate you. Sometimes life and setbacks happen, we understand and have been there before. Reach out to us by email and let us know.

 

Q:  Can I compete as ___?

A:  Cosplay America supports cosplay from all series and genres and welcomes your work.

 

Q:  CAN I COMPETE in both craftsmanship and Masquerade contests?

A:  Yes! You’re welcome to compete in both categories and can have different cosplays for it.

 

Q:  Am I required to have made my cosplay for the masquerade contest?

A:  Not at all. Masquerade will be judged based on performance, originality and execution.
